Grilled Fruit Kabobs

09/17/2025|by Jason Klein

Grilled Fruit Kabobs are a refreshing way to bring color and flavor to your next cookout. This recipe from Chef Johan Magnusson of Big Swede BBQ turns simple fruit into a show-stopping dish by combining smoky char, natural sweetness, and a touch of glaze. Perfect as a light dessert or a playful side, these skewers showcase how the grill can do more than savory meats. Each bite balances caramelized edges with juicy freshness, creating a dish that feels as vibrant as it looks.

This recipe layers melon, pineapple, mango, kiwi, and berries onto skewers before brushing them with a buttery glaze infused with apple juice, agave, and a hint of seasoning. The glaze deepens the fruit's natural sugars, giving the kabobs a golden sheen and a burst of sweet complexity. The grill adds enough heat to soften and caramelize while leaving beautiful marks highlighting the care put into each skewer. Served warm, they pair beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or stand alone as a fresh finale to your outdoor meal.

Grilled Fruit Kabobs prove that dessert on the grill can be both simple and impressive. They invite guests to share in something unexpected, sparking conversation and offering a playful contrast to heavier dishes. Whether hosting family, friends, or neighbors, these kabobs will leave everyone with a lasting taste of seasonal sweetness.

Grilled Fruit Kabobs

  1. Preheat your TrueFlame grill by igniting all main burners. Then close the hood and allow the grill to heat for 10 to 15 minutes; the hood thermometer should reach approximately 450°F. Turn off all the knobs except one.
  2. Peel, pit, and cut the melon, pineapple, mangoes, and kiwis into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Skewer the fruits and the berries on wooden or metal skewers.
  4. Melt the butter over medium heat and add the apple juice, agave nectar, and your favorite sweet BBQ rub, such as Big Swede BBQ Badass Pork Boost.
  5. Brush the fruit skewers with the glaze and place them on the grill. Grill until the fruit is heated through and has nice grill marks, about 8 minutes. Rotate and baste with the glaze every two minutes.
  6. Remove the skewers from the grill and baste one final time. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream.
