Caprese Filet Mignon Steak brings fresh, spring flavor to the center of your plate. This dish pairs the tenderness of a perfectly grilled filet mignon with the vibrant simplicity of a caprese-style topping. Melted mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and shredded basil crown each cut, while a balsamic reduction adds just the right balance of tang and sweetness to tie everything together.

Perfect for Mother’s Day or any spring gathering, Caprese Filet Mignon Steak delivers bold flavor without unnecessary fuss. The preparation is straightforward, yet the final dish looks and tastes like something reserved for special occasions. The contrast between juicy steak and fresh toppings offers a refreshing alternative to heavier, winter-style meals, making it a seasonal favorite worth repeating.

Grilling the filet locks in natural juices while the toppings warm slightly without losing their texture. Each element complements the next without overpowering it, letting the ingredients speak for themselves. Whether planning a small dinner at home or a backyard celebration, this steak offers a refined way to serve something fresh, satisfying, and character.

Serves 4

Caprese Filet Mignon Steak Ingredients

  • 4 6-8 oz. filet mignon or tenderloin steaks
  • kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1-2 Roma tomatoes sliced about 1/4 inch thick (you’ll need eight slices)
  • 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, cut into four slices
  • 8 fresh basil leaves
  • Reduced balsamic vinegar (store bought or make your own)

Caprese Filet Mignon Steak Directions

  1. Season filets with salt and pepper and lightly brush with olive oil
  2. Heat grill to high. Place steaks on the grill and reduce heat to medium. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Flip and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  4. At this point, you have two options: Remove the steaks from the grill and top with one tomato slice, one basil leaf, one slice of mozzarella, another basil leaf, and another slice of tomato, and serve as is. Or you can reduce the heat to low and top with one tomato slice, one basil leaf, one slice of mozzarella, another basil leaf, and another slice of tomato. Then, close the cover and grill for another 3-5 minutes or to the desired doneness.
  5. Remove to a platter, let rest for at least 5 minutes, and drizzle with reduced balsamic vinegar before serving.
